Spring

It must be spring, I went out to the loft and when this hen left her nest to eat, there was this little blond ball of peach fuzz.  First youngster of the year!  I think this is my favorite time because the possibilities for that youngster are endless.  It made me feel good just thinking about it!

Disaster!!

Blast!

Something got into my breeder's loft and killed 26 of my birds, piled them up in a pile under the window.  This will force me to change a lot of my matings, I'm afraid it may be very hard to find a suitable mate for some of them.  Between the dirty politics in the club and this I may have to assess my options about if I pursue this hobby anymore or not...

I must be persona non grata with our club.  At the last club meeting I requested to have my positive account balance refunded, and that in the future I plan to pay as I go.  The Secretary said she preferred it that way.  I asked if I could stop by the following Monday and was told no as she and her husband were both busy.(Her husband is the club President.)  I told her that was alright how about Tuesday, she told me that she would put it in the mail.
I waited 2&1/2 weeks then called and got her husband, when I talked with him he told me that he would check and get it sent out by the weekend.  Two weeks later I still had not recieved a check so I called again.  I got her husband again and he told me that he didn't know when it will get done as they were too busy to worry about it.  When I told him that if I didn't get my money pretty soon I would probably get upset as I could use the money!  He told me that when I was club secretary that they always had trouble getting their money from me.  I was flabergasted!  I had never delayed issueing a check to a member if an expense was incurred by a member of the club on behalf of the club!  After telling me this he hung up.
I still have not received my check to date.  I'm a little at a loss how to proceed without making a bad situation worse.  Our younbird season will begin in about six weeks and I haven't heard a thing since March.

Racing Season

Well it looks like we might not have an Old Bird race season.  Some members that were going to participate are having health problems that will probably make it hard to come up with 5 flyers to make it a nationally sanctioned race.  Too bad, I was looking forward to racing again!

Breeding

Well, I'm finally feeling good enough to "work the birds". I was down for a couple of weeks with bronchitis, Brenda finally made me go to the doctor. Now she feels vindicated as it was about to turn in to pneumonia. I'm working on getting the breeding loft in shape and trying to decide on matings. Hopefully I'll be pairing up by the end of next week!

Not Quite Back!

Well I left the house and took a car ride for the first time since my surgery today! I went with a friend who was training his pigeons, we left about 1 p.m. and got back shortly after 3 p.m. It was nice to get out of the house, but I found out that I'm not quite ready for prime time yet. I laid down when I got home for a short rest after taking some medication and woke up at 8 p.m.! I still feel tired, so I guess maybe I'll need to take things a little slower, but watching his team take off and fly for home as a unit was worth it!!

Update

Well we managed to finish the season with 5 lofts participating. Each loft won at least 1 race with only Bullseye Loft belonging to Bob Doher accruing more than 1 win. I count that as a successful Old Bird Season season. Young Bird races start in a week and I am busy training the new Race Secretary. I will be late starting this year as I had problems getting a racing team bred for this year due to personal problems during the year. My father died from a fall after a 3 month hospital stay, and I myself am recovering from back surgery that I had last Monday. We have a few young birds, but they will need a lot of training before racing. Hopefully with the help of my wife Brenda and my grandson Josh, we will be able to get them trained and join the club in the races just a few weeks late. Then they better watch out cause between the 3 of us we out to be able to take the club to town! Wish us luck!
